Mary Lacy Woz Queer

Performed at King’s Head Theatre in March-April 2023 as part of their queer-led Sight Unseen season, starring Rosanna Suppa, Naz Simsek, Isambard Rawbone and directed by Miko Chrobot.

The unbelievable true-ish story of an 18th century shipwright who lived her life as a man, Mary Lacy Woz Queer is no traditional historical drama. It’s told through the eyes of a modern-day non-binary history student, Krissy, and a pair of talking chimneys. Weird, wonderful, joyous and heartfelt, this play asks important questions, like who owns history? And what do we do when our historical heroes disappoint us?

Standing ovations, a huge emotional reaction from audiences and great reviews, this show really reminded me just how important theatre can be.
